Why All Students Should Fill Out the FAFSA

Hi Friend,

October is here and the college application season has begun. The process for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) was simplified last year, so new and returning students should find the application simple to complete. Both the FAFSA and the CSS Profile become available every year on October 1st. Parents of high school seniors and returning college students should organize finances and apply for financial aid now.

Funding a college education can be overwhelming. Fortunately, financial aid can help. By completing the FAFSA and, (for some colleges), the CSS Profile, students can access grants, scholarships, work-study opportunities, and student loans.

Take note, that starting July 2026, the Higher Education Affordability and Accountability Act of 2024 will bring major changes to U.S. federal student loans. This includes new borrowing limits, the elimination of certain loan programs, and simplified repayment structures, affecting loan access and repayment. Make sure you know the loans available to you before committing to a college funding plan.

The college application season is busy and can be overwhelming for students and parents. For more information to help navigate the application process go to westfacecollegeplanning.com.

Why Every College-Bound Student Should Fill Out the FAFSA

College is expensive. Between tuition, books, housing, and other costs, the price tag can feel overwhelming. Fortunately, financial aid is available to ease the burden, and every college-bound student should consider applying for it.

By completing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and, if applicable, the CSS Profile (required for some private colleges), students can gain access to student loans, grants, scholarships, work-study opportunities, and enhanced merit aid packages.

Student Loan Limits Will Tighten in 2026 Under Sweeping Federal Reform

Beginning in July 2026, students and families across the United States will face major changes to how they access and repay federal student loans.

The adjustments are part of the Higher Education Affordability and Accountability Act of 2024—informally referred to as the Big Beautiful Bill—which introduces borrowing limits, removes some loan programs, and simplifies repayment structures. These updates mark a significant shift in federal student aid policy.
