How to Build a College Budget

Hi Friend,

It’s July! We hope you make some wonderful memories this Independence Day. As summer break continues, and as your student makes the most of their vacation, it’s also the perfect opportunity to get them ahead of their college planning game.

The FAFSA is one of the most important steps to complete in the college funding process, but this year it has been riddled with delays and issues from the implementation of the new form. Many students have encountered challenges with completing the FAFSA, leading to delays in receiving financial aid award letters. These delays have resulted in difficulties for students in making timely decisions regarding their college choice.

Beyond the FAFSA issues, it is important to focus on the pieces of the college preparation process that are easier to control, like building a college budget. Creating a college budget sets college-bound students up for success. Understanding the importance of being financially prepared is a crucial skill that can greatly benefit your aspiring college student’s life.

At Westface College Planning, we are here to help you and your family prepare for and navigate the college payment process. If you have questions, schedule a complimentary college funding consultation with us today!

The FAFSA Completion Gap Is Shrinking. Will It Disappear Entirely?

The U.S. Department of Education unveiled a simplified version of the FAFSA in late December, about three months after the typical release date. The new form streamlines the process for students and their families, asking several dozen questions at most compared to up to 100 in the original.

But the process has been plagued by technical glitches and formula errors, on top of the initial delay.
